Solar Jetman is one of those games that I often hold up as being fairly unique to the NES. As was a theme with old school NES dev; particularly Rare Ltd - it was incredibly innovative. It's a planet exploration game, complete with differing gravity and hazards on each world you explore. All of this is built on a basic foundation that is similar to the classic, OG arcade game "Asteroids" - a "propel forward, rotate and shoot" dynamic. On top of that, there are additional layers: the effects of gravity, using boosters to overcome particularly stong gravity or heavy treasure, navigating complex maps, hauling items back to the mothership, and shopping for upgrades like special weapons and more-capable rocket pods.
If you've never played this game, you're missing one of the most memorable and expansive experiences on the NES. It's got a killer soundtrack by David Wise to boot. Note how the background music changes when the engines are engaged and/or when towing an item; this has a way of immersing one into the game even more.
